I love the BBN. As of this morning UK has the #3 recruiting class in the nation per ESPN. Booker was a great addition. The NIT would never have happened if Nerlens hadn't gone down. Take Wiggins off Kansas this year and they could just as easily fall apart. They are not very deep. Injuries happen and last year's team had very little depth.
We've got quite a few good options still out there. BTW, we did just win a National Championship and we are UK. Plus we have Cal. No one can recruit like him with the assets UK has to offer. If he couldn't develop talent, kids wouldn't come here either no matter how well he can recruit.
This years team will probably work out to be once in a lifetime. We best appreciate just how special these guys are now and how good they are going to be come March.
Like Cal said at Midnight Madness, "We don't just play basketball . . . we ARE basketball."
Take a deep breath BBN. The sun rose this morning and I'm betting it does again tomorrow.

I agree and we have the #2 Class now according to 247sports. If Lyles signs soon we will move up. We need to focus on this year as it is going to be Great! Don't even know who will stay or go out of that class yet!

I have a feeling that the lack of a Cal caliber point guard and leader had as much to do with being in the NIT last year as Noel's injury.

My take is that Blackmon knew it was going to be IU right after Big Blue Madness. I don't think he made a last minute change of heart. My guess would be that he saw our team, it's depth, the kids likely to come back who are very good, and decided IU was the better fit for him, coupled with his mom's supposed push to IU. I don't think Booker's nod had anything to do with it, nor does it lessen the chance for Lyles. Another thing, Exum will not play college ball, he's going straight in. Not that that shocks anyone. Actually, if Blackmon (who, by NBA standards, would be a seriously undersized wing) is convinced that his only way to the next level IS as a PG, there is a logic to this. Cal may be the best PG coach in the country, but that's the hardest position on the floor to master (see Delk, Tony), and Cal's also been very clear that he'll over recruit anyone. The point is that I can easily see A) JB's doubts that he'd be able to create meaningful daylight next season between himself & both Ulis & Hawkins, RATHER THAN see his major minutes at the two; B) the corresponding unlikelihood of being "one & done" at EITHER positions; AND c) the prospect of 2015 bringing a top PG into the fold. Not saying something similar couldn't happen at IU, as well, but maybe less so, & who knows what Crean might have promised to keep him at home. Just saying.

I heard from an IU contact today. He keeps stats for the mens basketball team, though is not employed by the school. He thought it was UK up until yesterday when the wind changed. He's telling me, and he's guessing, that the Booker verbal did influence the situation. That's his take, I don't know. Blackmon will not move Yogi Ferrell out of the point guard spot, but JB could be a capable backup.

I just saw a post by Greg over at the "old" watering hole, and he said JB was UK until yesterday morning, after Crean's visit. He said he has the actual texts that JB sent out, asking for more Photoshops of him in a UK uniform. He was supposed to have been aware of Booker's commitment, and was coming. Supposedly, ESPN even thought it was UK. The Mom evidently wanted IU and Crean somehow used all this to change the decision. I am just elated that we got Booker and look forward to watching him develop under Cal. I just hope it works out for JB, but can't hope for his team to have ANY success. I believe that bunch is at the very top of my crap list!!!!!!!!

Go get 'em Cal and staff.

For one, everyone that plays his position will be gone after this season(with the exception of Hawkins) and secondly there will be more competition at the guard spot and IU next season than there will be at UK. Blackmon would have been guaranteed 30+ minutes a game at UK as a freshman, even with Booker in the fold.

Sounds like Crean and mom pulled some intervention lol. Won't say what I'm thinkin, but I wonder if JBJ would have been able to handle Cal and UK anyway. It's not for everyone.

Sorry about that. It's hard to write and interpret things such that the meaning is as meant. I thought you were saying I was one of the types of UK fan that I, and probably most on this board, detest. The ones that give all of us a bad name as being morons!! Again, I apologize for misinterpreting your comment. I've been accused of writing lengthy (I guess another word would be "windy") posts, but I learned over the years that it takes a lot of effort to try to make certain I'm saying what I mean to express. And, I still haven't figured out how to pull it off 100% of the time even after all these years .
