Some notables: - Patrick Towles finished with 20/29, 377 yards, and 1 TD (rushing). - Braylon Heard's debut was also a successful one. 2 carries for 116 yards, both resulting in TDs. Longest 73 yards. Mikel Horton was 2nd in rushing with 7 carries for 45 yards and 2 TDs. Jojo Kemp has 8 carries for 31 yards and a TD. All in all not a bad day for The Stable. - The defense (Tiller and Stamps) had 2 INTs. For the sake of comparison, they only had 3 INTs all last season. Henderson had a beautiful fumble recovery for a TD as well. The team had 3 sacks for a loss of 14 yards (Regie Meant 2, Mike Douglas 1). AJ Stamps led the group with 4 solo tackles. - Landon Foster punted just once today. Once. For 46 yards. - UK converted 8 of 14 on 3rd down today. For sake of comparison, they only converted 4 of 11 against Miami(OH) last season. - Most TDs scored by the Wildcats in 5 years. 4th highest point total in Commonwealth ever. Another random stat, Neal Brown has participated either as a player or coach in the Top 4 highest scoring games in Commonwealth. All in all it was a good day. Obviously it's UT Martin so expectations need to be tempered as such but I thought the offense looked as good as it possible could in it's first game with a new QB and a lot of young playmakers. Braylon Heard is the man. I wish he hadn't of tweaked his ankle so he could've went 3/3 on touches for TD. I will say the two spots I saw some issues today were on the ends with the defense. They did a poor job of sealing the run and we'll get torched against someone like Gurley and Georgia if it doesn't get shored up. The secondary really hurts when Tiller isn't in and this is where Darius West's injury will hurt IMO. Also thought special teams was sloppy at best with a missed 41 yarder and some blocks in the back on coverage. I have a feeling that will probably be a weakness for us this season. I couldn't get over how enjoyable watching the game was. It seems like an eternity since UK fans have been able to watch some good football.

I was just pleased that for the most part we did what we were supposed to do. Next week could be a whole different story, but we caught passes, played with intensity n didn't do stupid isht every possession.

Having seen just about all the SEC teams now, and glancing through the schedule... call me crazy, but I believe a bowl game is definitely in play

I really think everyone needs to keep in mind who we just played. UT Martin is the lowest rated team on our schedule and ... other than Miss State's opening opponent (who also won by 50) ... UT Martin was significantly worse than any opening opponent of any SEC team. By about 100 positions. Not that we didn't look good and have lots of positives ... just really think that we should remember it was against a very inferior opponent. One that we should have dominated. The rest of our schedule will be significantly tougher.

But when is the last time we actually dominated an opponent that we should have dominated, all while executing the offense as designed? That's all I care about at this point, and so far so good. Defense needs a lot of work, but that's what these first couple of games are for. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4

I'm with ya ... not trying to be argumentative. Guess my point was that even over the last 5 years, we're 5-0 by about 30 points a game over teams similar to UT Martin and still ended with a couple of 2-win seasons thrown in there.

FWIW, I think UT-Martin was bowl eligible last season. Ohio will be a tougher OOC. Louisiana-Monroe will be the toughest OOC on the slate for us outside of UofL. While we really won't know a whole lot about this team until they make that trip to the Swamp in a couple weeks I feel pretty comfortable in saying we won't be last in the East (Vandy is pretty bad right now) and I think we at least double our win total. Anything beyond 4 wins is beyond my expectations because you just don't know how USCe and Spurrier will rebound.

Anything beyond 4 wins is beyond my expectations because you just don't know how USCe and Spurrier will rebound. UT Martin is an FCS school (old Division I-AA) and FCS schools don't play bowl games. The OVC (UT Martin's conference) is an above average FCS conference and while UT Martin did win 7 games last year, they just barely finished in the upper half of their conference. Ohio and UL Monroe are both Division I schools and will be significantly better tests than UT Martin. Which was my whole point ... that we really can't take any significant meaning about the strength of our team by demolishing a mid-level FCS team like UT Martin. The last Division I team that UT Martin played beat them worse than we did this year.

I thought they were a FCS school making the move, sorry if I was incorrect.
Either way, whether it's UT-Martin or not you can still discern whether they have improved in execution compared to this time last season (and they have). Several other outlets have noted the improvement in the type of playmakers we have.
