Figured I'd start this one up for us to share info on fall practice as it's released. Day 1 Report - UKAthletics.comJust a couple notes: - Matt Elam is apparently really setting himself apart from the pack just in the first day. Coaches and Bud Dupree commented on him as having the potential to be an early impact guy. I know there was some talk that he may have to redshirt to get into college shape when he committed but it sounds like that ship has definitely sailed. - QB race probably won't be decided until later in the fall. From all accounts, the group as a whole are playing really well and making it a tough decision for Coach Stoops and Coach Brown. Absolutely the news we want to hear at that position right now.

ryan flannigan and a.j. stamps really stood out as well. very athletic. stoops commented that the secondary was already greatly improved from a year ago. and yea, elam, he is a load. and quite athletic for a guy his size. he moves people. and the strength and conditioning program seems to be paying dividends already. guys are noticeably bigger and coming in with much improved bodies.

From what I've read online, Elam has REALLY shaped up. Some people are saying he's lost anywhere from 35-45 pounds, which does nothing but helps his athleticism.
Also, UK released a "pump you up" video yesterday, putting it below for those that haven't seen it yet...

Are the QBs gamers? Over the years, we have gotten reports of how good some players are in practice, but on the field not so much. Or was that just so the idiots that were running the asylum to give excuses for their head scratching decisions?

I want the Power K helmet t-shirt he's wearing when they show him doing the voice over.
Kat, from what I gather the QBs legitimately are playing well and giving each other a run for their money. Towles looked the best I've seen him in the spring. The coaches talked about how consistent Phillips has been and poised as well. We don't need a Johnny Manziel clone right now. They have enough talent around them that a good old fashioned game manager would do well enough while Barker redshirts.

Max Smith or even Rosy Cheeks would be PERFECT. Just a guy that can make a consistent throw and move the chains.
Sounds like the receivers had a better day today. Brown said he wasn't too concerned yesterday because it was the first day, dew on the ball, humidity, etc. I'll find and post transcripts when I get a chance.

seems that the incoming frosh are impressing. good things about the big wide receivers blake bone and baker performing well. the staple of running backs has to be the teams strength this year. the level of players coach stoops is bringing in is showing right away. this class of freshmen are unlike anything we have seen around here and it is showing already!

Wednesday's recap:
West out for the year. Broken leg (again).
Stoops/Eliot pissed. Guys didn't bring it today.
Rivals interviewed Mel Lewis and he said they were flat, him included. I'm sure it's the early mornings, I know I was a night owl at that age.
Hopefully they can rebound tomorrow.

Broken leg for somebody they were counting on at a thin position? That is sooo UK football. Staying positive, though.

I'm still looking towards 2015. I seriously think we win 4-5 games this season regardless. I think we land another top 25 recruiting class, and we walk into a renovated Commonwealth in 2015 and start turning the SEC East on its ear.
Anything above 5 games this season is gravy, and I'm not gonna be all broken up if we don't win 4. Joker left this staff a dumpster fire of pig crap to work with, and they're trying to make bacon out of it. Just have to see what happens.

Read that about West. Hate that. Seems like we get one back (Clemons) from awful injuries and turn around and lose another. That's the nature of it though. And while it leaves us thin, I still feel comfortable with the situation. Even as a 4* he was going to be on a learning curve. Maybe the time off will allow him to completely heal as he had that issue in high school.
