Was out in Wyoming fly fishing last week so just got an opportunity to watch the entire game. Just another hard lesson for the Cats. We are right there, you can see the team wants to believe it can win but the winning culture just isn't there yet. We could and possibly should have won that game, hence the frustration with Coach Stoops. In a way, losing like we did does serve to illustrate to our fans what kind of coach we have in Mark Stoops. Losing simply will not be tolerated and winning is going to be expected. I'm an old but optimistic fan and I firmly believe Coach Stoops and his staff are close to turning this thing around.
Offense-Really don't understand the criticism of the play calling. What exactly is coach Brown suppose to do. He calls the plays then the guys don't execute. The offense is improved but there is one major stumbling block right now.
QB=Stumbling block. What we saw from Max is what is seen in practice. He just isn't the same QB and he is missing on way to many throws. This offense will not run without a solid QB back there throwing strikes. Stoops is challenging Whitlow to take over the team which has been another downfall of the QBs this year. They are good kids but they are not leading the team. They are not making the plays on the field to deliver winning football. Towles really wants to redshirt so I think its more then likely that Reese will find his way into the game. Its a slippery slope. You don't want to spook Barker away but at the same time we have to do something different then what we are doing now.
RBs-Really love the heart that Raymond Sanders is playing with but he still has to break tackles and make someone miss. That should have been a potential game winning TD on the 4th down run but he is tripped up by a shoestring. JoJo continues to display that extra gear and run hard. Next year we will see all of our backs with the same explosion that Kemp has and even better.
WRs-Nice game by Aumiller and what we saw from Timmons is something we should see more off moving forward. The kid I really like watching play though is Montgomery. Just knows how to catch the ball and hangs on despite taking blows. Just need to find a QB that can get the ball to him. Hopefully Badett is healthy soon. His speed would be a nice addition to the group.
OL-Not a bad performance overall. Would like to see us get a little more push inside but they played well enough to win.
Defense-Kind of a recurring trend but mistakes the first few possessions are really putting us in a bad position. The fact that we seem to shut teams down after the initial onslaught is positive but we have to learn to play 60 minutes of football.
DL-Bud was just an absolute beast. Incredible game and I thought Rumph and Smith were very good as well.
LB-Rare mistake by Avery cost us a chance to get off the field but this continues to be a position where we struggle.
DBs-Thought Fred Tiller had his best game of the year and Dixon is playing well. But Lowery is not playing well at all right now.
Special teams-Mansour is having a nice year, unfortunately he had his redshirt waisted by Joker so this is his SR year. No way you make that call on off sides. That was a horrible call but an even dumber mistake by Blaylock.
Tough year, and not sure it gets much better. But I do see light at the end of the tunnel.
