I know, I know, it's August 8th. But after the 1st 6-minutes that was still hard to watch. Very reminiscent of last year; couldn't stay in front of people on D or make a shot on O.
Some that impressed:
Some that didn't:
Got off to a great start and the overall effort was very good, and the athleticism was impressive, but I just expected the whole team to be more successful on both ends of the court against the weakest of the 4 opponents we will face.
I figured Cal was just going thru the Coach-speak routine when he said they might go 1-3 on the trip but he may be correct. Hopefully the Cats have there shooting-glasses on tonite and things open up underneath for Travis.
Go Big Blue.
Some that impressed:
- Richards: Protected the rim off-the-ball, showed touch, hustled. Still got beat 1-on-1 occasionally but was generally solid.
- Herro: For the 1st half anyway. Very good mid-range game, good hops, wasn't afraid to take a shot. Had trouble staying in front of his man.
- Hagans: Was a pest on D, hustled all over the court.
Some that didn't:
- Travis: Couldn't make space and get a shot off under the rim, looked lost. Rebounded well.
- Point Guards: Ho-hum, Quickley appeared to get most of the minutes and wasn't particularly impressive at any aspect; wasn't bad, just wasn't notable. Green appeared to be more active / decisive but still, didn't have many WOW moments.
- Johnson: Wasn't bad, just expected more. Athleticism is obvious but it didn't translate to much production.
