Yesterday saw a plethora of players drop from the NBA draft process and announce a return to the Collegiate ranks; none were from UK. The silence has been deafening from all three prospects considering the plunge. My guess is that all three are just seeing who stays in the draft before making a final, last minute announcement.
Personally, I'm sticking w/ the opinion that UK gets 1-of-3 back w/ the most likely being Vanderbilt BUT wouldn't be surprised at any outcome other than all 3 returning.

I too think the odds of more than one returning are not too good. But I hope if we get only 1 it would be Washington If Vanderbilt couldn't work out at the combine ...how healthy will he be starting this summer so that he can 'meld' with the new guys.....if it's like last year.....and we really don't even know what or how serious his 'ankle' issues are. I would love to see Gabriel return but think he goes.....and IMHO opinion we have the 3 pt shooters to offset his loss Give us 2 of 3 and the mountain top becomes more possible....... Dream the Dream
PS at least we'll have fun pontificating tomorrow

Looking more and more like the Stanford transfer, Reid Travis, will be the safety net if UK loses 2-of-3 (or all) tonite. Can't say that I've been a big fan of Washington's game; I'd rather see either of the other 2 back in uniform next year. Face it, all three have holes in their game and need to add skills. PJ needs some offensive polish and consistency. Vanderbilt needs to demonstrate ANY offense at all. Gabriel is-what-he-is and I believe the closest to being at his ceiling (and therefore the most likely not to return).

Now I'm hoping for the Standford kid to 'come on down'.....PJ, Montgomery, Richards and Travis would be a super solid if not exceptional frontcourt.

Well, logic doesn't always prevail in these matters; some kids will always filter what they hear to support their preconceived inclination. Again, JV was VERY explicit last summer as to how he saw himself and what his intentions were. The mere fact that his freshman season was 180 degrees in the wrong direction from what he expected, leaving his skill set and durability in serious question AND coupled with a continuing injury that would keep him out of the Combine itself wasn't gonna change that. BTAIM, I do hope his entry to the next level goes a lot better for him than his brief career here.

One last shoe-to-drop before the roster is set? I know only what I read yesterday about Reid Travis but it sounds like he and PJ are cut from the same mold; limited offensively w/ a "power game" and very capable on the glass. Too bad Gabriel didn't come back and add more experience to the roster but compared to last year, next years squad will be old timers. The Bahama's trip will certainly help build the Team and we'll see what the season might hold when we tip off against the Dookies.

I don't know if I'd call Travis "limited offensively". I have to admit that I haven't watched him or Stanford play enough to evaluate his game first-hand, but he's scored in double figures almost all of his career there and is a two-time all-conference player who averaged 20 points a game last season. That would tend to make me believe that he does have at least a decent offensive game.

From what I read, he's made a living off of put-backs and post moves. There is something on seaofblue about his "improved jumper"....... but he is good free throw shooter which usually translates to some kind of decent shot.

If the guy comes here, I have no doubt that Cal's going to find the way to exploit his strengths and minimize his deficiencies. He does appear to be a true power forward, at 6'8", 245# and complete with nice footwork and a little jump hook to go with it. If he gives us a second guy who can do what PJ brought to the table late last year [and maybe even more so], I see that as a GOOD thing, as long as we can pair him with EJ or a much improved Richards AND fill the other 3 spots around the arc with guys that ALSO require attention. IF, in the meantime, PJ demonstrates an ability to swing over to the 3 spot and seriously compete with Johnson for time there, that's ALSO a good thing. In the end, competition will bring out the best in players.
My bigger concern [since Cal always says he's going to try zone, but then abandons it before the team becomes proficient] is whether we can be a better defensive unit this coming year. We weren't big enough last last year to turn the lane into a no fly zone, and people DID run screens/pick & roll on us to get the match ups they wanted and then beat us off the dribble. We really need to be better in that area this year, and that includes PJ, Nick and Quade. When someone like Travis carries 245 lbs, you like the idea that he can hold position and move others in the paint, but also wonder whether he can defend in space. As always, you gain in one area while giving something up in another.

Reid was ALL that Stanford has had for the last couple of seasons. Big strong guy & pretty mobile.
