Well, the reports are that Cal has offered this kid. Assuming that this is a 2018 offer--Hagans has long since indicated a desire to so reclassify--this looks an awful lot like Cal is going "small". That is, nearly half the roster will be composed of 4/5 star kids like Greene, Baker, Herro, Quickley, Johnson and now Hagans. That looks like he's decided--maybe in the lurch--to go for better shooters who can stretch the floor at one end and both cover the arc AND stay in front of opponents driving the ball at the other.
Any other take on this?

If Shai (99.99999% gone) and Hami go.
Then we only have, Quade, Quickley, Herro, Baker at guard right? One injury could make the depth paper thin.
I really like the potential of having Hagans though. Cal will have different options depending on who is playing well, matchups etc. Quickly, Hagans, Keldon Johnson would be a nice combo of length, athleticism, and the willingness to defend at the 1,2,3.
I think you are on to something with shooters though. By adding Baker last year, Herro and Quickley this season - and the possible (likely?) return of Gabriel.... we could have a lineup of 4 shooting threats on the court at one time. I don't think Hagans is known as a shooter but I did watch a video of him and Jaylen Brown lightly playing one-on-one, his shot looked pretty good in that - looks like he has a clue and not any horrific hitches or tendencies. The ESPN scouting report is one year old - so hopefully his shot is more reliable since that write up.

SGA is gone. IMO--Diallo is only a hint of a late first round, early 2nd round pick, away from not returning. IMO Hagans is the better pure PG option, but having two would be a bonus, and Quickly,at present, is much the better shooter. No way the Cats won't take Hagans if he wants to come, whether the 2018 or 19 class.
Scenerio #1 SGA and Hami leave---Hagans re-classifies,and comes in with Quickly and Herro,to join with Baker and Green, leaving Ky with 5 guards. In that case Green, maybe Baker might transfer
Scenerio#2 Hami returns leaving Ky with 6 guards, plus Johnson. Seems somebody has to go
Scenerio#3 Knox loves college enough to return,or just wants to be a kid for a little longer. Now Johnson plays a lot of 2G
Interesting problem filled with offense that has been missing...lots of coaches out there that would love to have such problems !

We have 11 scholarship players off this years roster, including Tai Wynyard. That means we can accommodate 2 of the 3 kids already signed even if none go pro, and all 3 if Cal chooses not to renew Wynyards scholarship [which might happen]. Under that scenario, we can add Hagans if SGA leaves and EJ Montgomery if at least one other departs for the league, which I believe WILL happen.
Personally, I see no reason for Greene OR Baker to leave. All that seems to be happening is something that they shouldt have expected from the day they committed: that they'd have to compete, every single day, against other top quality players. Besides, I think you're selling them short. These guys can contribute.

Good point, I didn't even think about the scholarship situation. Everyone is expecting multiple players to leave but the fact that we have offers to EJ Montgomery and Hagans and we are a scholarship short right now...just reinforces that.
I think Scenario 1 is most likely from your previous post. Hagans- I agree - he looks like a pass first guy. I really liked his athleticism in the few videos I watched. Quick first step and defenders don't recover once he gets by them. He's not quite a John Wall athlete but definitely a way way above average athlete when you factor in his size, speed, and quickness. Hami- the NBA draft peeps I follow definitely think Hami's draft stock is 2nd round. Lots to work on, but do you work on it in the G League where you can focus every day? He already has a lifetime scholarship... so he can always go back to school. I also don't know how playing in the G League factors in when it comes to your 2nd contact in the NBA. NBA salaries are so crazy now, you just have to be good enough to be a 2nd string role player and you are still set for life.
I definitely don't want Green or Baker to leave. Green has to continue improving his athleticism and really really improve his skill and IQ. He already is skilled but his lack of length and explosion will require an extremely high level IQ and skill to get drafted or just make a team. I could see Cal running 3 point guards at times with the way the game is changing...
Does anyone know if Baker started practicing late this season? Even with zero gameday experience it will still be nice to know that he's been through the drills and has been working on his game lately.
This roster couldshape out really nicely. We will still be extremely young but Cal might have one of his most flexible rosters since he's been here. Mix of drivers, shooters, and length. Speaking of length I expect Nick Richards to make a big jump next season. Last summer when I heard he had only been playing basketball for 4ish years, I didn't expect that much from him this season. Now with a season under his belt - another off season in the weight room - he should make a much bigger impact.
Another question.... is this the year Cal and UK can travel and play in the summer? Once every 4 years right?

Not selling anybody short, just thinking out loud about the numbers crunch, and didn't make my thinking clear...however Green came to UK expecting to be "The PG" and he wasn't. He is too small to play any other position in the NBA,if he makes it at all and if Cal brings in two bigger, guys with better PG skills, then yeah, I could see him transferring. As for Baker who on here has any real idea of his skill level, other then he is "supposed to be" a 4 star, knock down shooter, whose present knee, health condition, has been almost totally unreported,so yeah I could see him transferring for several reasons.
