Gary Parrish sums it up nicely in this - www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/24128933/josh-smith-cleared-to-play-at-georgetown-immediatelyBut, basically Josh Smith was granted a waiver to play immediately at Georgetown after transferring from UCLA. He was also given two full years of eligibility remaining, despite the fact that he already played 2 full years at UCLA and 6 games into his Jr season before leaving the team/school. He didn't transfer because of any family issues or to be closer to home (he's from the Seattle area) but still the NCAA says he can play immediately. Basically, rules don't apply to him or Georgetown. What a crock. If he had transferred to UK, I can guarantee you he'd not only be sitting out a year and losing the year of eligibility, but they'd likely find a way to make him permanently ineligible. How can a governing body continue to be so inconsistent and get away with it? Parrish mentions a guy who lost a full year of eligibility because he played in 1 exhibition for his school before transferring. I hope he's got a good attorney doing some pro-bono work taking on his case against the NCAA. I don't want to wish ill will on anyone, and you can't blame the kid for trying/asking, but I wouldn't mind if he continues to eat his way down the path of Renardo Sidney.

agreed. that makes no sense? kids aren't given waivers because a coach is fired are they? i'm not sure on all the rules. but the fact that he played 6 games should have cost him as well. but we know the ncaa has no consistency from case to case in anything. good for the kid is suppose.

Even though this is the basketball board, the Davis twins that transferred from Pitt to UK this offseason for football should have a good argument against the NCAA now. They had to sit out this season after transferring due to a coaching switch. Even though they sat out all last year with a red shirt, they still had to sit out this season because of the transfer.

In reading some of Parrish's other tweets yesterday, he and Goodman seem to think Smith might've claimed psychological abuse from UCLA coaches when in reality all they were likely doing was holding him accountable for his weight/conditioning. Parrish said something like, "to anyone else who wants to transfer, just gain a lot of weight and then claim coaches were harsh."
Again, the lack of consistency with the NCAA is nauseating.

The NCAA is consistently inconstant. The rarely do anything that makes much since.
