You know how everything runs in cycles. Are we headed for more normal years for our basketball program starting next year, where we don't have 5 superstars coming in every year, but one or two?

I am probably all wet and out in left field, but it almost looks to me like Cal is positioning the program to take in a few athletic 4 star caliber players that he can see developing into a 5 star talent with a couple of years in the program. If he could wind up with the right combinations, we would have more continuity and be more likely to be a contender each and every year. I can see players like Hawkins, Willis, Booker, etc turning into outstanding players with a couple of years experience. Keep a core like this and add maybe 2 or 3 OAD's each year and you have a continuous string of contenders! Then you don't get into a "hit or miss" situation each and every year like we tend to have now (not that Cal ever misses that often!!!) . JMHO

2014 class is less than stellar, one of the weaker ones. Wouldn't hurt to gather up four or five kids who could continue on and then add some better guys in the 15 class.

I think the talent in the classes goes in cycles but I don't think Cal or KY is any less powerful then before. I think it's a little silly to expect what we got last year every year. But only at KY can you have kids like Towns, Ulis, Booker and possibly Lyles and be near desperation.

Cal is doing all he can for next year to be a very very fundamentally good team. Then the following year will add some absolute studs like Malik Newman and that team will resemble the national championship one.

I think though that if UK after today has Towns, Ulis, Booker, and Lyles and a shot at Stanley or Belden (as an example)....that could still give us the # 1 class again. Most of the 5 * kids are thinking NBA and many are thinking OaD......so all Cal can do is anticipate his returning people and bring in the best he can and hope that a Teague surprise doesn't change the course he's plotted. What I 'fear' more is that an over all class like the '14 we're recruiting is not considered a ''strong'' class like the Randle/Harrisons etc class was considered 'strong'. So even though you have the 5* freshman they may not be able to overcome the ''experience'' of other veteran teams who don't have as much success with OaD's so they build with experience of being in college a couple of years or more. The experience may overcome the freshman stars in that scenario. But I'll be happy with whatever class Cal builds because the ''end'' is always better than the ''beginning'' under Cal and that's the fun Cal bring to UK. I'm enjoying the ride.
