He reminds me of those highly skilled Euro players, only he's more willing to bang and play defense. Frankly, I see more potential in Derek than in Kyle -- though clearly they play a different game. I am surprised by his quickness.

If we want to think of it that way, I think we made a pretty good trade...............Wiltjer for Willis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep traded in Kyle Wheelchair and now have a new set of wheels. Willis might not be strong down low, but man he is fearless, he can actually move his feet and his stroke is so much quicker that old Wheelchair's stroke was. I love Kyle, I think he will have a solid 2 years at Gonzaga. He just did not fit the type of ball here. Willis fits in and goes at it hard each play. Kyle Wheelchair? Really. You think that's funny? Uncalled for. Willis looked good and definitely showed athleticism and quickness that Kyle seemed to lack but no need to insult Kyle and everybody stuck in a chair for a cheap chuckle.

Made me think about Larry Steele when he first arrived, but only the other old timers would remember him I remember him well! He was another unsung player when he arrived on campus.

For those who saw him in HS and didn't have much good things to say, didn't look at his overall game. In HS, he had to play down low a lot, because of his height. Cal is using him out where he can use his talents, ball handling, passing, and shooting. Tough for people to guard a 6'9" wing. He is going to be really good, when he gets a little more strength and can combine some inside play with his already polished outside play. I want AJ really badly, but if we whiff, I feel good about Willis and probably a returning AP to handle the wing next year. I'm thinking 2 yrs & 20 lbs heavier, and Willis can be an even bigger nightmare for people. He's appears to have the wheels & handle to swing between the 3 & 4, and his passing definitely caught my eye. If his shooting is at all representative, WOW; he could be the big sleeper of the entire class.

I was really impressed with his play last night considering it was a scrimmage. BUT I do see him becoming a valuable member of the team down the road. He may get some time this year to show some Wiltjer like contributions but its his next three years where we really appreciate having him on board IMHO.

get is a great get for us, in particular down the road i believe, but also, i believe he is a greater loss for pitino. lville wanted him badly, and their loss being our gain is the icing on top here.

He can handle the ball and drive better than Padgett , but if he is close to as good as Padgett was , I'll take it ,but I really think he'll be better ! Jmo, but take it to the bank !! Lol!

I remember Larry very well as well as others back to 1957. As you can see I am an "Old" Cat fan!

I wonder how many call in shows will feature Cat fans asking "how come you didn't play Derek more?" Ala Richie Farmer.....although Willis seems poised to play much more then RF ever did.

Its gonna be interesting to see how much Willis will play. Marcus Lee, Dakari and Poy will get plenty of time. Particularly Marcus Lee IMO because I think he'll become a great shot blocker for us as the year wears on. But it will be interesting to see how much Willis plays and how the minutes are divid up between all these guys. Cal hasn't had a team even close to this deep with quality options. Even John Hood is looking like a guy that could see some time. He looks more confident than ever.

Feldhaus, or Padgett, or Pelphrey, or Wiltjer, or Bird? Much better than Feldhaus but not nearly as strong. Quicker and better handle than Padget. Hopefully he can have the same impact as Padgett. Quicker than Pelphrey but does he have JP's basketball IQ? I think so. All around better player than Wiltjer. Can he stroke it as well? Don't know but he has a quicker release. Of these four I would say the best comparison is Padgett.

I'd have to say he is a Wiltjer/Feldhaus combo. The offensive abilities of Wiltjer combined with Feldhaus' tenacity. Will be a dangerous combo in the coming years.

he has the game of a foreign player. the thing I like about the kid is he has the look on his face that he belongs at a school like UK whether some didn't think so.
