I am not and never have been a Washington Redskins fan but all of the continuing flak about forcing the Redskins to change their name makes me crazy.
If you are an individual that has been the victim of discrimination; there are laws that are in play to prevent discrimination - leverage them. If you do not like some aspect of an organization - do not support it. In this case; don't watch the NFL, don't buy their memorabilia, don't buy the products that advertise in that venue. That is the way you exert influence as an individual. If there is a significant number of people that feel as you do and take that same path, those companies will quickly realize and that will have an impact on the "offending" party. If there's not sufficient people that feel as you do then maybe there's something out of skew with your thoughts on the matter. If you're a crusader that's out to stamp out any (real or perceived) injustices in the world.... protest away so long as it is all legal. If you're a politician and this subject is high on your list of things to address then I have no words to describe how screwed up your priorities must be.
In summary: if you're the owner of a franchise and want to name a team any name that is legal...... I support your right to do so. If you're a (potential) patron of said team and are in any way offended by the name let those feeling be heard and if the owner chooses not to heed then don't support them or their sponsors.
"Political correctness" has exceeded logical boundaries.
Amen.

"Political correctness" has become two words that are mutually exclusive. You can bet that anything that is politically correct is going to be screwed up. No one has the right to not get their feelings hurt.
