So is Towles better off leaving, because I would think he would get the nod before Reese. I'm a lil surprised.

Smith is just to hurt to help us Win, and I don't think he will ever get well! I love his heart and if he had not got hurt ,he would of been a lot better! Phillips showed some good things in spring game and as Stoops said in press conference today he can manage game and make good decisions! He will still have a redshirt next year and who knows a little playing time may make him better able to compete next year! Towles has already wasted one year !

I think this is more insurance against both qb's going down than anything. I would hate to see Towles lose parts of 2 years.

I'm almost expecting Towles to leave after this year. If he's the 4th option right now with Barker coming in next year, may just be best for both parties for Towles to look somewhere else. Hate seeing that happen to a Kentucky kid that had lofty expectations coming in, but just seems to me like the writing is on the wall.

I don't kno what is going through towles head. but i'm not sure if leaving is what we as the program want. playing in this league, injuries are a big part of the game. bama carries 5 qb's I believe. not every kid is going to be couch or manziel and click early on. woodson was a redshirt junior if i'm not mistaken before he started to impress. if he keeps is redshirt, that will give him 3 years left. barker may be the real deal, seems that way. he may also need a redshirt and another year after that to be ready, who knows. he can also, hopefully not, go down at some point to an injury. in this league, you need depth, depth, and more depth. and this kid may just bleed blue. a few of us know a little about that. and just want to be a part of this program no matter what. should jarrod polson transfer just because he could start and maybe even star at a lesser division basketball school? or does he just really love being a part of this. I don't know what is going through his head, but I hope he stays, develops, and maybe one day contributes if his number is called.

I am afraid Towles may leave too and I wouldn't blame him. Not saying he is getting a raw deal or anything but I can see it being frustrating for him. He lost the job to 2 soph that were not really recruited by anyone but us as QB. They both return, Phillips is apparently looking good, and Barker coming in. Unless there was some kind of understanding that he would redshirt this year because the staff knew we were going to be weak and had a killer schedule. Then next year he would be give the reigns while Barker redshirts. I doubt that is the case however. I love his commitment to UK, but I'm sure he doesn't want to spend his entire career as a backup.

Towles needed to redshirt this year as he lost last year. He will get much better between now and spring practice..i don't think he leaves.

I certainly don't want him to leave either, but wouldn't be surprised if it does happen. Guess we'll just have to wait and see, and just hope it all works out for Towles and the Cats, regardless of the outcome.

The issue of talented guys waiting on the bench is a "problem" we will have, and need to have, to ever climb the totem pole in the SEC. How many rising star QB's did Spurrier bench, never to be heard from again, when he was at UF and to some degree USCjr, and then the kid he put in turned out to be an upgrade? Not saying Stoops will go to that extreme, but the only way this kind of stuff really matters is if you're only getting a handful of legitimate SEC talent each year and you're trying to sell recruits on immediate playing time. I don't think that will be the case here going forward.

Don't think Towles will leave. He wanted to redshirt and hasn't wavered on that. Those that know him say he hasn't said a word about transferring just wanted to redshirt if he wasn't needed to start for a long period of time. I think he wanted to redshirt mainly due to the fact that he should have redshirted last year. If he was going to transfer it would really make no sense for him to redshirt as he could use his redshirt year as his year to sit out somewhere else. I believe Towles thinks he'll compete for the starting job next year with Barker and Phillips and believes he has a good chance of winning the job.

How some people think they know more about how "good" Towles is over TWO coaching staffs is beyond me. Stoops wants to win, do you all not think if Towles gave this team even a possible shot of doing that he wouldn't be out there playing. From what I read, he got by on his athleticism in HS, and his throwing motion is a broke wee-wee mule.
Anyone that saw that TD pass to King last season and take an honest look at it can see he's not that great. The defender fell down, LaRod got to the endzone, had a nice dinner, some vino, saw a movie, and had an 8 hour night of sleep in the time that ball was in the air. I was honestly surprised the defender didn't have time to get up and make a play on the ball as long as it was up there.
I wish the kid the best, I really do. But by him sitting, just shows that he's not good enough to QB this squad. And, with the options we have at QB and he's not in the mix, that should speak volumes of his future at UK.

Edge Pretty much how I see it also. Would love to see him succeed, regardless of where it happens, just not sure he's good enough to take the reins at UK. I've been wrong before, but seems like this would be the year for him to play rather than next year.

Edge Have to agree also with edge, I would think he would be chomping at the bit to get on the field and prove himself right now. He will still have 2 full years left and with the players we have coming in the future I wouldn't want to take any chances. Not to mention, I couldn't stand to see my team lose if I could help...........................
