Just wanted to freshen up the Football discussion leading into National Signing Day. I will probably have a NSD thread on Feb. 5th, listing the commits as the LOI's come in and giving everyone another outlet to discuss the team.
Now, finishing out the class....
I'm going to list the 4 I want the most and why, chime in with your thoughts and predictions.
1. Matt Elam- I know people (myself included) are about Matt Elam'ed out, but this kid is important for 2 reasons. 1. Kentucky has GOT to start locking down the state and quit letting quality in-state talent go elsewhere. And, 2, UK really needs help in the middle of that D-line with Cobble and Rumph exhausting their eligibility. I'm not sold on Elam coming in and starting right off the bat, but I am sure that with a redshirt season to help develop his body and technique, he can become a quality SEC DT.
2. Josh Krok- When the rumor leaked out a few weeks out that he was still considering UK, I was ecstatic. If anyone with any FB knowledge watched the games last season, they know that our O-line wasn't our best feature. To effectively run Neal Brown's offense, the line has GOT to open holes for the run game and also protect in the passing game. Neither of those happened consistently last season. Kids like this are what the Cats need to change that. One site called Krok the "most NFL potential" of any of our recruits, and that's what we need to build a solid O-line.
3. Derrick Kelly- Kid has flat blown up. Kelly should be a reassurance to the fans that even though kids aren't ranked as high as we think they should be, this staff can identify talent. This kid has FSU, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and a ton of other schools sniffing around. I'm hoping Stoops' in home tonight can convince the kid that we were there when all these Johnny-come-latelys didn't think he was good enough. I don't expect him to sign, but this is who I want...not necessarily who I think we'll get.
4. Lloyd Tubman- Same reasons as Matt Elam on locking down in-state talent. I think this kid would be a nice replacement for Bud, as a stand-up DE pass rusher. I'm fairly certain he ends up at Penn St, but this staff's not gonna back down.
Now, for the 4 I think we end up with...
1. Elam
2. Krok
3. Kenneth Randolph by default
4. Surprise recruit.
Hoping the last 4 concentrate solely on the lines, but if you have a high-grade skill player wanting to hop on the train, who am I to argue.
