Three-weeks to go before games begin....
Hardly anyone outside of the locker room is suggesting that this will be another 10-win season; the question becomes "how much of a fall-off will there be?". My personal opinion is that an 8-win campaign would be a sign of significant progress. Eight wins would give some concrete evidence that Stoops is indeed building a program that can sustain success at un-UK like levels. UK has had few-and-far-between truly successful modern-era seasons built upon gimmick (Hello Hal) or questionable recruiting practices (Fran Curci). However, "success" has generally been qualified as the modest winning campaigns posted by the likes of Claiborne and Brooks. Stringing together a few 7-8-9 win seasons would represent relatively new-territory and just might change the perception of Kentucky Football to the point where Vandy is the sole resident in the SEC basement apartment.
UK's strengths will be both lines - and that's a good thing. Good lines make average players behind those lines look good. Outside of Bowden UK's skill-position players on the Offensive side are pretty much "prove it" talents; nobody has much street-cred starting the season. On Defense, the father you get from the d-line the dicier the situation gets. The linebackers look decent if not spectacular while the backs are a complete crap-shoot.
Injuries early in camp aren't helping much......
If I were a betting man (and I am); 7-5 smells about right with 8-4 being a stretch-goal. Expecting that level of success, in what might be classified as a rebuilding year, shows what progress the Program has made.
