We can now say an official goodbye to Tyler and Johnson after their announcements to remain in the upcoming NBA Draft. Tyler was that rare-bird who's confidence translated to immediate success at the College level. He was fun to watch and brought an outside game that hasn't been a strength of most Calipari teams at UK. I wish we could have enjoyed a 2nd year w/ him in Blue but certainly understand the decision for him to go now. Johnson is more of a unfulfilled promise; I don't believe we ever saw the player he could become during his only year at UK. Best of luck and happy paychecks!
Today's "big" news is on the possible pursuit of 6'10" Virginia Tech Grad Transfer F/C Blackshear. I sincerely doubt this goes UK's way; he's testing-the-NBA-waters and I assume that his 1st inclination would be to follow Buzz to A&M if he decides to return to the College ranks. Obviously he's been a productive player at a high-major level so he's going to add value to any roster he joins but I don't see where we have this real need for another 1-year big. Richards, E.J., Sestina and Whitney should provide more than enough quality minutes at those positions. Richards has a confidence issue, not a lack of skill. Give the kid some focus, put E.J. on wing and let Sestina pick up whatever pieces are left.
