To put the cap on 2018/19; three reasons why Auburn beat us: - We did not take advantage of the 1st 15 minutes when we were clearly dominant. UK coulda', shoulda' taken a 15-point lead into the locker room instead of just 5 (and fortunate it wasn't just 2).
- For the 1st game in a long while, our freshmen played like freshmen. P.J. and Reed played a solid game; can't say that about anyone else.
- Jacking up errant three's affected shooting confidence that bled over to the free-throw line where the game was actually lost.
The whole second half was an exercise in futility. We played Auburns' game throughout the last 25 minutes; they were better at every phase. That we managed a late lead was surprising; that we couldn't hold it was not based on the flow of the contest. Well, that's it. I'm done w/ 2018/19...... it was mostly fun and ultimately disappointing but we've been here before (often).
Onto 2019/20: P.J. and Travis are in the "done" pot. Johnson isn't "done" but as close as you can get to it. Herro is a half-step behind Johnson. I believe that's it for the NBA exits. However, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Richards finds some alternate path and/or there's a transfer (Quickley or Baker). Hagans is just too raw and E.J. too undeveloped to make the leap this year.

I think Herro and Johnson need to look at PJ's game tapes from last year compared to this year. Notice how much he improved and come back for another year of development. But I do understand if your a first round pick it's time to go. We'll see how it plays out.

Add in that next years draft is looking kinda weak may give more reason to look at coming back. I sure hope they do but wish them the best if they jump.

can anyone explain to me why Cal doesn't use his big men inside more than he does? this has been something that has bothered me since his 1st year with Cuz. it may also explain why he hasn't been able to land a top notch center for a while
Coach Rupp wore the opponent out with Issel Coach Hall used Bowie & Turpin
Cal just lets the guards do what they want

Basketball has changed, we need 4 shooters minimum on the court. College court is way too cramped and it is tough for big men to score when you have 1-2 defenders that can sag off their man. I would prefer 5 shooters :-)

Actually, I think Cal fed the post more this year (w/ P.J. and Travis) than in years past. However, most of UK's true centers have just been used as rim-runners. I always will believe there was a lot more to Humphries than Cal got out of him and it may end up that way w/ Richards tool; both have a good 12-15' stroke. In so far as "shooters" go; Cal prizes defensive potential above all else and therefore recruits athletes first and basketball players second. Some UK squads have suffered on the offensive end of the court from the philosophy.

Some UK squads have suffered on the offensive end of the court from the philosophy. You are right.. we did try to score in the post more this season then the typical Cal team. Seemed like we would go stretches where the team forgot about it...then Cal would get on them and they would feed every time. I know Cal gets a bad rap for being a below average game coach but I think that has a lot to do with having a young team. If you only have a season or two then it's tough to have plays/concepts for every scenario a team faces. I think that's why he preaches "empowerment". However, I do get frustrated with him and his lack of time outs. Especially in the first half when he ends the half with 4. I would think the first half timeouts are a great opportunity to remind the kids what to do in certain situations and hopefully stop some opposing team's runs. Seems like it's a waste of an opportunity to coach. I really hope EJ and Nick are viable jump hook options next season. With Sestina having some back to the basket ability - it will be nice to have a low post option and surround that person with 4 shooters. It could really open up the lane.
