Today kicks off the 2nd weekend of the Tournament and no teams future is more cloudy than our Cats. Of course, all of it swirls around P.J.'s availability AND his potential effectiveness.
I do expect UK to creep past Houston is what might be the lowest scoring game of the Sweet Sixteen. If Tyler is "on" that might change things but these are two teams that rely on "D" to carry them. Don't expect asthetic-points in this one.
Getting past UNC (assuming that Bruce Pearl doesn't pull a rabbit out the hat tomorrow) is a whole 'nother animal. UK will need P.J. not only to play, but needs him to play WELL to advance in that one. I believe the best scenario would be for Auburn to pull the upset and then the game becomes more guard-oriented; just can't see P.J. being P.J. this weekend.
Regardless, make the Elite-Eight and deal with whatever you're facing.

Im not worried about Houston the least bit. In fact Id sit Washington for that game as I think they could be the most over hyped team in the country.. Houstons claim to fame for the season was a 6 point win against LSU. WOW!!! Other than that they played nobody, their conference stinks and got creamed by Cincy in their tournament.
As far as NC goes.....its a 50/50 game which is what you expect come the elite 8. LOL I mean your not going to play Gardner Web in the elite 8. Nothing to be worried about. We beat them once and can easily beat them again. Shut down the three point shots and contain Coby White and they will be fine.

[ We beat them once and can easily beat them again]. They've got better since we've played them. We're better too, but their offense is incredible. We may need a Malik Monk type of game from Tyler and/or Keldon to get past them. [Shut down the three point shots and contain Coby White and they will be fine.] Yes - we've shown that we can shut down the 3-point shot, but vs Wofford, it came at the cost of offensive production. Hopefully, if PJ plays serious minutes, Tyler is not as tired playing 40 minutes of defense and can get going from 3-point land.

Before we played UNC they had already posted four 90 point performances(nearly 90 vs Texas to make a 5th) and 3 100 point performances. They were incredible then and we still contained them. You cant get much better then 90 and 100 point games lol. Every team in the country gets better from December to March lol......if your not getting better you should try a different sport. We dont need a monk game to win. We need to defend, rebound, contest their shooters shots and play our game. If we do we will either win or be in a position to win the game. Simple as that.

Assuming everyone's confidence in UK and UNC making the Elite Eight is well founded.... We beat UNC when they weren't getting anything from Little; he's much more productive nowadays. The earlier UNC game was Hagan's "high point" of the season and a difference maker; is it reasonable to expect a repeat of that? Can we win? Yes. However, we won't be favored to do so..... again, just get to that game and see what happens.

There are many ways to skin a cat my friend. You dont need replica performances from certain people to win a game against a given opponent. Games can be won or lost in a multitude of ways. Comparing our game then to possibilities now is senseless. Maybe little will have 20 and White and Maye will have 6 each? Maybe Nick Richards gets 15? Maybe foul trouble reduces someones minutes? Maybe someone rolls an ankle. I mean you guys are acting like UNC is some immovable object here lol. Like I said....I dont care who is favorited. Its a 50/50 game. We may win, we may lose but I am not the least bit worried.

Any team at this point makes me worry. Every game has a few common denominators that are amplified once you reach the sweet 16. Does the other team go red hot and/or we go cold? Foul trouble play a role?
I don't know much about Houston though, I am curious how quick their guards are...? Seems like we have trouble with teams that are quicker than us. Quicker guards seem to push our guards out really far and then we spend 20 seconds running our offense 30 feet from the basket.
North Carolina is a whole difference beast. They do seem to be playing really well right now. They have definitely improved, but their system makes them look really good too. If a team runs with them, UNC looks good. Washington was a good matchup for UNC as well. UNC adds more worries... like officials. I don't think you guys would argue with me that we got completely screwed in the first half with the Fox/Monk/Adebayo team. I have no doubt we were the better team but UNC gets the 2nd best whistle in college basketball.
Little is a concern too. The light is coming on - but he still is pretty up and down. He will make a great play and then a silly play right after.
I think the way Coby White is playing is more of a concern. White has "take over the game" potential with his offense. Hagans is a good guard to slow him down though. Brooks has a little more experience and seems to be playing better too. Then they have the "we got beat" earlier motivation too.
If you remove the refs - I think these teams plays pretty evenly in a 10 game series.
On the plus side for us... PJ and Reid are a tough match up for them. Herro is more confident too. We are a better team now as well.

always hate having to play a "rival" in the regular season & then in the tourney White had a bad game the 1st time, wouldn't expect that a 2nd time No one knows how PJ will respond being off for a couple of weeks
that is IF UK gets past Houston

that is IF UK gets past Houston Yep. Good point. Do not want to forget this. I would love to see this team really play well down the stretch. Also really step up on a big stage and play well.

Im amazed at how so many seem worried about Houston lol. We have a team of at least 5 or 6 (at minimum) future NBA players and a few future overseas pros. Houston doesnt have a single solitary NBA player. IF we cant beat Houston then its time to pack it up and get ready for next year. PJ or no PJ we have NBA players and they dont.....we should win this game.

I worry more about the officiating when we play either of the, 'Annointed Ones" ----Puke or UNCheats. Wouldn't even surprise me to see John Higgins, assigned by Emmert,to screw our Cats again. Called 19 fouls in the first half against the Cats, when they recently played the Tarholes in the elite 8. I did a double take when I saw he was still calling games, in the Dance, after all the threats, and complaints, plus his attempt to sue KSR
How many of you remember the botched, and crooked calls by his daddy "Tim Higgins" In 1995,when the Cats played UNCheats in the elite 8,he threw out the Ky player after a Tarhole started the fight. All to guarantee "Clean Dean" Snith the victory. Seems Tim had history with Pitino. Maybe why UK dislike runs in the family. Yeah Ole Clean Dean was the original maste rmind behind African Studies, requiring no attendence, and only one paper turned in at semester end. So if you needed a class ro stay elgible to play for Tarhole U,just turn in the paper, and get an A ! Course Ole Roy had no knowledge that stuff likev that existed----dadgumit !

I posted about officiating and John Higgins hard on for the TarHoles, and family history with UK, before they lost to Auburn. John Higgins called the Gonzaga game today in California...yeah the game with a couple of missed calls---one that couldn't be reviewed, but he was close enough to make the call. Thankfully it ended up having no real effect, and Texas Tech went on to win much to Pukes delight, if they can get by MSU. Still will not be surprised if he shows up at the Cats game Sunday.
