With Peach Jam behind us there's a ton of "so-and-so now involved with player-X". Seems like UK is pretty much rumored to be in contact with every top-20 player in the class depending upon what day of the week it is.
Of course Wiseman and Carey are still the biggest tickets. Reading between the lines, it appears to me that UK is posturing themselves in a way that suggests they believe Wiseman eventually yields to local pressure and stays home (Memphis). That is too bad considering the strong position UK has been in w/ him for the last couple years only to be undone by the Memphis coaching change (C'mon Tubby!). Carey has long been thought to be a Duke prospect; getting him here for BBM might turn the tide but its' Dukes battle to lose at this point. Anthony is the other high-profile prospect that has UK on the radar but not in the lead position.
Obviously players like (PG) Lewis still view UK as a fast-lane to the NBA but we're no longer viewed as having a near monopoly for that market. I'm not sure that Lewis' comment about coming to UK if he decides he's all-in on getting to the NBA as quick as possible is a point in UK's favor (but it does reflect the way we're characterized). The message is better delivered as "we'll develop you, regardless if you're a 1, 2, 3 or 4 year player we can get you to your potential better than school "X"".
With the guru's spouting on about how weak the 2018 class is, and that the 2019 appears to be of the same mold, it may be more important to have a number of returning players rather than the "next big recruit". A returning player like Herro, Barker or Green might be infinitely more valuable than Anthony when all's said and done.
You never know how things will turn out, and I'm sure Cal will have a top-2 class when all is said and done. I'm not at all confident that said class will have 1 of the top-3 players wearing UK Blue.
