First, Marc is not all that bad of a guy up close and personal. And, he was THE most connected guy to UK that I ever knew. Some of you may not know that he talked with them, back in the day of pre Wiggins, almost every day. I've been with him when his phone NEVER stopped ringing, from head coaches, and assistants, all over the country. Some of you know that too.
Not only that, but Marc is smarter than your average bear. In fact, he probably borders on brilliance. I've seen it and recognized it first hand.
OK, enough man love. I also knew, having been in the "business" of recruiting people for 40 years, that his house was built on shifting sand. I've seen it and so have you.
So while we were getting good stuff for what, five or six years, he was sometimes letting you know, other times not. It's the nature of the game. Sometimes, the mods over at TBK will tell you this, we knew when to shut up, but he'd tell us things that couldn't be let out. Like Xavier Henry, we knew he wasn't ours but kept it on the down low. It had to do with his brother who Cal did not offer a ride.
Like Will Barton. Another push job on Cal for a tandem scholly. Cal said no. Memphis it was for Will and Antonio. Great kids and family.
Other things I knew but couldn't reveal. I knew on Jason Parker but had to sit tight, it was a scholastic issue with some deviousness. Can't say those things.
I knew Julius Randle would commit to UK in January. Marc didn't know that I don't think.
So, what I'm trying to say is that he WAS the bellweather of UK inside information. Maybe he still keeps in touch, I don't know.
We won't have that here unless the next MM surfaces. I can tell you this, the supposed gurus of other sites have no idea most of the time. It's a guessing game, and sometimes even the coaches at UK don't know, as in the case of Wiggins. Those who had "sources" saying he will commit were trying to guess right. I knew better. Wiggins didn't know, his family didn't know, his coach didn't know.
Ok, said my piece. Back to the baseball game

Always appreciated the info that Marc provided & was very knowledgable about what was going on and for that I always loved TBK as a site and the info provided. Unfortunantly gotta take the good with the bad and look's like the run is over. But Dave always apprecated you and other verified sources sharing the little tidbit's that helped people like myself who are not in the know connect the dot's.

TBK hasn't been the same in a while. I have a hard time sitting back while people are being ignored and paying for a service they aren't receiving. I held my tongue as long as I could, but I finally had to do something. That's why I have the free access...even though it doesn't really fix the problem.
I loved TBK and checked it multiple times a day. It was always the first site I would go to, and I'll miss reading some of MM's notes.
That being said, one of the best things at TBK was the "respect your team" motto and respectful posting. I can't stand the constant bickering on other sites, so I'm looking forward to the future of this site.

TBK, unfortunately has been dieing a slow death for a while now. If it wasn't for 4Bar posting, I don't know what would have been posted. I appreciated MM's info for a while, but his condescending, kiss my ring, I'm smarter than you attitude just wore thin with me. You can't offer a service and then treat your customers like that!

That's why I kept checking every day with hope , when it was going it was full of great information! It was so frustrating to be a lifer and go to the lifer page and check and nothing , back early on when things started slowing down ,I asked if the home page could be changed ! The fact that the article about Tee Martin was still the first news article was like a slap in the face! One of the few posts I posted was asking if it could be changed or just deleted . The only thing to get deleted was my post! So glad this site has started up! Thanks to all who had a hand in this!!

You guys are right, when Marc was on top of his game, nobody could touch him. I have followed him since he had UK Uncensored, and it seemed he always knew what was going to happen. I especially remember him telling us Cal was coming even though there were a lot of people saying no way. But like David said, you can't treat customers like that, have them pay for a service they don't receive. Oh well, life goes on. Thanks again for those who set this site up, it seems like it will be my regular hangout now!

As I see it, it all has to do with expectations. At its peak TBK was a phenomenal site - great participation from its members, solid information from Marc. And people did not mind the concept of paying for the privilege of getting that "behind-the-scenes" look at recruiting, from Marc and the other VSs. It was going to be very difficult to sustain that type of environment on a long-term basis. This type of pressure results in burn-out (I'm sure many of you have seen similar trends in the business world). The duration of this burn-out varies. In Marc's case, you add personal issues, multiple business interests competing for his time (photography, comedy bar in Mexico, etc., etc.) and it could be for quite a while (if ever!) before TBK gets any attention.
I am disappointed in the fact that he knows the site is going down-hill, and that people were very upset about their subscriptions - and he chooses to ignore the situation. That's just wrong and I'd rather not support an organization like that.
I like this site because it's founders are people who saw what was going on at TBK and enjoyed the good things about TBK and wanted to do the right thing. I hope it never becomes as heavy-handed as TBK occasionally did. It should be OK for people to people to express their thoughts, respectfully and in a non-insulting manner, and others not to get defensive about it.
I've been guilty of significant amount of lurking in the past and the success of a site like this is so dependent on activity and participation. To that end, I'll try my best to contribute to the discussions and add to the entertainment value. I want this site to succeed and adopt the best practices (and posters!) from other sites. So Mods - please do let me know if I can help in any way.
It's so good to have Dave on here. I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading his posts...
Here's to KATSCRATCHES and years of discussing our beloved Cats.
We are UK!

I also enjoyed TBK when it first got started. It seemed liked it started going downhill during the 2011-2012 season. I remember that on the basketball court it was an incredible season, but the message boards were pretty dead that entire season. Marc would post a tidbit every now and then since. I was one of the original lifer's so I will still go back and check over there hoping Marc will go back to scouting, but I'm guessing that ship has sailed.
From the sound of this board it sounds like Marc attracted a lot of people that preferred to lurk because otherwise they might offend Marc, myself included. Marc has helped make me a better basketball fan and for that I am thankful.

Marc has helped make me a better basketball fan and for that I am thankful. I couldn't agree more Roger. I was a member from nearly the beginning of TBK and probably had less than 150 posts (mostly in non-basketball related threads). A simple comment like "Archie seemed to play better last night than the previous game" could have been met with "You're an idiot. He wasn't in position on 3/4 of the plays." Obviously that's just an example, and if it's exaggerated, it's not intentionally exaggerated...that's just how it seemed Marc could be.

Marc never seemed to miss with info. If he did, it was because something changed like with Barton or earlier with Billy Donavon. Other times he knew before anyone else a la Terrence Jones. I'll be around the old board but if he's not doing the scouting work any more, I doubt anyone will still pay to be an insider.

On an audio report in 2010, Marc did once say that Eloy Vargas was all-SEC material. Also, before Wiggins reclassified, he wrote that Wiggins "will be a Wildcat."
