How do you guys see the game playing out? I think it will be a very tightly contested ball game throughout with UK pulling it out in the end, 75-71. I just worry a little bit about Andrew possibly getting in foul trouble guarding the shorter/quicker Appling. I think Aaron and Harris will basically cancel each other out and if Payne gets in foul trouble, it could spell trouble for MSU. Can't wait til next Tuesday. The kiddo has basketball practice, so I will miss most of the first half, but I will get to see the 2nd. Should be a classic!

This early in the year, I could see Appling being very turnover prone. He's been either great or terrible his entire year. Whoever wins the rebounding war and gets to the line will win the game. Michigan State has always been known for their rebounding. We need our front court to work theirs over.

I think State will have a hard time with our frontcourt. B/w Julius, WCS, Dakari, Lee....that's a lotta beef down low.

This will be a good game to see how good we are. Could go either way. Hope we pull it out by 5-7 points

I would be shocked if it's not close whoever the winner turns out to be. I would feel better about it if it was later in the season just a bit. Either way, I know who will be the better team come March.

Appling had 3 points total, in 21 minutes of action, against Indiana (PA). He had 16 against Grand Valley State. Agree, he has up and down outings. They play McNeese State tomorrow night (Friday). Payne doesn't bother me. Not nearly as good as his AAU teammate, Sullinger. Had six points against Grand Valley. I think we handle them.

Thanks, Dave! I didn't realize Appling was that up and down. That's crazy that Payne put up such little numbers against Grand Valley. I think he will come out hyped against us and play well though. I agree that we will win in the end.

He has the physical size to match them inside and from the wing in the minutes he plays I hope he's productive on the glass. We need Julius to play like a beast. I predict Dakari gets a lot of run in this game. WCS and Lee could be important with their shot blocking ability. I look for MSU to take it directly into WCS's body though and play him very physical down low. Overall I believe our guard play is just too good. I worry a little bit about them getting confused some defensively with switches and what not but they can make up for most of that with size and athleticism. If they are stroking it from deep it could be a long night for MSU.

Not sure what it is, but MSU has never played well against GVSU. They lost one year with Neitzel at the helm if I remember correctly.

If not, you'll see more Randle, WCS, and Lee, I think.

Poy completely slipped my mind! He should make a killing on garbage buckets around the rim.

My feeling on this game is that it is a very talented foe for so early in the season! We've got a lot of beef down low, but I'm not so certain we will know exactly how to use it this early. These kids aren't used to "prime time" yet, so we don't know how they will react this early in the season. I guess what I am saying is, if we meet this team in March, I think we will put them away, big time. However, for this early in the season, I am "cautiously optimistic", but I am not going to get down in the dumps if we lose. It's like I told a Louisville fan I work with (one of the good ones), I'm not going to be greatly disappointed if we lose this game, but if we win it this early in the season, barring serious injury or other catastrophe, the quest for the National Championship is over for this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading Dave's post, I think we will handle Mich. State in a tough battle. Any Izzo team will be ready for the Wildcats.

MSU usually starts the year pretty slow and then comes on later in the year. I think what will be important is how our youthfulness will respond to pressure situations (psychologically), such as a team who puts a run against us. All I know is that I will be there cheering them on.

Mich St doesn't usually play the best in the beginning of the season ,they tend to get better as the season goes on ! I think our overall length and talent 1-12 is a lot better than MSU's ! Ky wins by 6 and if they play in March ,win by 16 !!!
