Just, WOW!!! Hopefully, this is the final piece by which to reassure the rest of this class that they definitely made the right choice.

Well, just when we thought it was over....
Now some rumblings that Mathis may not make it (not sure if it's academics or better options), but per Rowland last night he may be a casualty. So, now, guess we will see if something breaks.
I know some are back on the Valentine bandwagon now that Elam committed, but I think that was never a true option. I'm hoping for another O-line/D-line guy and would LOVE to bring Valentine into the fold, but we will just have to wait and see.

I have to say, I have never felt so optimistic right after a 2 win season with next season looking to be only marginally better. there's no way Stoops won't get this thing turned around the way he is stocking the roster with this kind of talent.

There's no effing way you have recruiting classes like he's pulling in and NOT show improvement on the field. I'm guessing the next season (2015) we start stunning some teams and a shot at the East in 2016. I really think Stoops and company are going to kill it here, just need to show improvement this season.

I just don't see anyway we pick up Valentine. From all accounts he has some ties to that LSU squad with other commits they have coming in. I'd be shocked if he didn't end up in Baton Rouge even though I'd love to have him.
As far as how quick the class makes an impact, I think it's all going to hinge on that QB position. If Barker manages to get the start (and unless Whitlow really improves and/or Max Smith's shoulder makes a miraculous recovery) we could see some movement by mid to end of the season next season IMO. When you really look at it, we had some very nice pieces in the wings last season that we just couldn't get the ball to. And I think the one no one is really talking about, Braylon Heard, might really impress.

Thoughts on the rumblings that we could land Tubman with the spot left by Mathis? If Stoops can pull it off, it'll be one of his more incredible recruiting coups to date. Because the kid hasn't given any indication that he won't be following Franklin.

This is uncharted territory for UK. But even more stupendous considering we are coming off back to back 2 win seasons. If we could somehow win about half our games next season there's no telling what this staff could do in recruiting.

Next season is still going to be tough (trading Alabama for LSU in BR is no slouch) but we'll win some we shouldn't depending on what happens at QB. 2015 will be the year to watch IMO.

Yeah, I really have no expectations for these first couple of years at least, other than to keep building the program with recruiting and coaching them up. I'm just really impressed by how well the staff has recruited despite the lack of success on the field. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4

How does Alabama and Tennessee get by with taking 40 commits?

How does Alabama and Tennessee get by with taking 40 commits? There's a "loophole" where if you can get a kid to sign financial aid papers early then you can "back count" them on the previous class. Tennessee didn't take a full class last season. They'll also pull some good ol' fashioned "processing" to get their scholarship numbers down before the summer. This Tennessee article really breaks it down well. link

Congrats to the coaching staff on first putting this together, then improving on it rather than just fighting to maintain. The key will be in achieving enough success over the next two years to maintain the recruiting at or above this level. For all the (deserved) ballyhoo, it's still "only" the 7th highest rated SEC class this year. There has to be enough on-field success for "the message" to find ears. Can we all agree that winning the QB lottery is key? Smith's career is effectively over; is Whitlow really the answer? We've got bodies to choose from... let's hope that one of them is really the man we need.
